The Witching Hour Advent 2024 by The Fibre Fox
I didn’t see this one during preorder season, but when I saw the mood boards for this Advent over on Instagram when they made “spares” available, I was in trouble. But can you blame me? Look at this:

Gorgeous, right? For this one, I got Merino Sock base, and no extra goodies. (I don’t remember whether they were out of the extra goodies or I chose not to get them.)
The good thing about grabbing one of these “spare” Advents is that you don’t have to wait months from when you place the order until it arrives. I purchased this one in mid-October, and it shipped in early November, along with all of the ones that were pre-ordered back in the Spring.
The preorder sold out within days when they were originally offered, so don’t fret if you miss out on an Advent preorder. Many dyers will offer a few spares after they’ve finished dying and figure out how many extras they have on hand. But definitely keep an eye out and don’t hesitate when you see the spares being released, because there usually are only a handful of extras, since they are dyed-to-order. And if you know that you want an Advent from a particular dyer, don’t take a chance. Get on their mailing list now and start watching in early Spring for info about when they will be offering preorders.
The Fibre Fox is run by Georgie and her husband Ben out of Lincolnshire Wolds in England. Georgie’s parents ran a local yarn store since she was a child, and she left the family business to start hand-dying yarn back in 2018. They also sell lovely handmade project bags, made by her mother. (I bought an adorable one featuring sunflowers and beehives as a gift for a yarn-loving friend for Christmas.)
The advent calendar came in this lovely box:

the box contains a bag for each day, numbered with a sticker so you know which order to open them. Here is Day 1:

The base I chose is Luxe Sock which is a 3 ply that is 75% 19.5micron Superwash Merino and 25% nylon. The description of the Advent promises a fade, from blush pinks to dusky mauves through indigos & dusky blues to moody greys, so I can’t wait to see where this goes. It’s off to a lovely start, isn’t it?
If you want to follow along day by day, join me over on Instagram. I’ll do a blog post every few days so you can see the days all together, but if you’re like me and want to see each day as they’re opened, definitely follow me on Instagram!
